About Us – Bir Bikram Institution

Bir Bikram Institution is today hundred and three years old. From the beginning of its journey, the students have been excelling in different academic and co-curricular activities. With the active cooperation of the teachers and guardians this institution has been able to achieve this feat. I am hopeful that it will continue to surge ahead with much vigour and vivacity.

History:
Bir Bikram Institution, a renowned school, spread over a sprawling area in the heart of the District town Dharmanagar at North Tripura, has entered into the prestigious centenarian block of schools in Tripura, but it is not burdened with crippling diseases. It is rather parched on a lofty height with all its vivacity.

It is learnt from the ‘Administration Report of Tripura State’ by M. Chakraborty, 12Vol-I, page-67 that Bir Bikram Institution, popularly abbreviated as B.B.I. had been established in the year 1917. This institution was permanently affiliated to the Calcutta University. The attainment of the permanent recognition by this Institution was mainly due to the warm enthusiasm of the local public. This recognition remained intact up to 1950 and from 1951 this institution got affiliation from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. When Tripura Board of Secondary Education was established in 1976, it became affiliated to it.

Bir Bikram Institution is basically a Boys’ School. But time to time it has taken girls’ students too. There was time when there was no scope for the girls students at Dharmanagar to study beyond class VI. Bir Bikram Institution took the responsibility to educate the girls. After introduction of H.S.(+2) Stage in the year 1976, when there was no educational establishment other than BBI to offer this stage of Education, BBI took the responsibility to educate the girl students again. The Bir Bikram Institution for the first time had sent its students to appear in the Public Examination under Calcutta University in the year 1923.

Achievement:
The students of Bir Bikram Institution have been doing excellent performance in academic field from the very beginning of its journey and it is being presented in tabular form for the initial consecutive five years:-

Since its affiliation to Tripura Board of Secondary Education in the year 1976, in almost every year students of B.B.I have been getting places in the “Top Ten” place in Madhyamik Pariksha and H.S(+2 Stage) Examinations. Apart from academic sphere, the students are performing well in different co-curricular activities also.
